Artistic Statement

Twenty-Twentyone

Levi Hibbert

Levi is a contemporary performance artist and creative director working across the interdisciplinary of media, film, music and dance. Their work transverses borders and takes many forms such as events and live art installations.

Levi creates works for a diverse range of audiences to enjoy, while exploring and challenging the long-adhered-to stereotypes of black masculinity and that of gay men. Their visual work rings true to the edgy, cool, characteristics of new queer cinema whilst offering new forms of spectatorship to those both within and outside of the LGBT+ sphere.

Affective bi-polar with no lows, part of Levi’s mind is laced with an artistic take of black queer expression and the other with their attempts to reframe the gritty appeal of London, Paris and Amsterdam's heteronormativity. Having worked and lived internationally Levi is keen to continue creating long-lasting conversations and art that resonates between disconnected communities and highlights common causes.

A strong advocate of Art Therapy, they continue to facilitate and participate with mental health services in Hackney, enabling their art to be accessible and enjoyed by many.

Daringly different and unapologetic in their practice. Limitless.
